Mammalian Neurogenetics

Group Leader  Elizabeth Fisher.

Our group is based at University College London and works in collaboration with that of Dr Abraham Acevedo-Arozena at MRC Harwell.  We are interested in finding new mutations in the range of different genes that cause the human neurodegenerative disorder amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), otherwise known as motor neuron disease (MND). Working with Dr Acevedo-Arozena and with colleagues at UCL we analyse these new mutant mice to determine if they model aspects of ALS and how the mutations affect the biology of motor neurons.  We are also developing a new gene targetted models.

In addition, the group at UCL is studying mouse models of the human developmental/neurodegenerative disorder, Down syndrome, and determining the effects of gene dosage from an entire extra chromosome, on neuronal biology.
