MRC Harwell offers first class opportunities for PhD students including excellent scientific facilities and a formal training programme. Students register on a 4-year PhD programme that includes an initial six-month induction and rotation across two laboratories of their choice before selecting and embarking on their research project. Students register with either the University of Oxford or the Open University. MRC Harwell is part of the wider Oxford University Campus with excellent interactions across the Medical Sciences Division.
Currently we have 21 doctoral training students. The student body runs a twice yearly student research mini-symposium. There is also an annual student symposium presenting work to MRC Harwell scientists and external supervisors. MRC Harwell has a strong post-graduate programme and puts considerable emphasis on the recruitment and support of career development fellows. Together the many junior members of the Unit contribute to a vibrant atmosphere providing a supportive environment for the development of future leaders in mouse genetics.
