Summer Studentships and Placements
Are you a college or university student considering a career in research? Are you interested in gaining some lab experience during your course or over the summer break?
We welcome enquiries from motivated students who would like to apply for a summer studentship at MRC Harwell. You need to have completed at least your first year at university, and currently be studying for a course in a relevant subject. The studentship is unpaid, but the student and potential supervisor can apply together for a scholarship from the Genetics Society, Nuffield Foundation or other sources.
The studentship will usually be for six to eight weeks during the summer holiday. This opportunity will give you valuable practical experience of academic research and a strong competitive edge in PhD and job applications.
We also offer a limited number of 6-month placements for ambitious postgraduate students studying for an MSc in biomedical sciences, biochemistry or another relevant discipline. These placements are unfunded and the student is required to pay their own expenses. Please see our research pages and publications for more information about our research areas and which research group you would be interested in applying with. MRC Harwell will help with any applications to funding sources you identify.
How to apply:
To apply for either a summer studentship or postgraduate placement, please contact the research group leader directly telling them why you would like to do your studentship with their research group and copy in firstname.lastname@example.org.
Application deadlines for summer studentships range from mid-January to mid-March and the application process usually takes 2–3 weeks to complete. Placement applications should be sent no later than October the year before the placement is due to start.
