Start Date: Monday, November 11, 2019

This course is aimed at those interested in creating their own mouse mutants using electroporation. Participants will have practical hands on experience in the tools they need to CRISPR edit mouse embryos using this technique.

The recent emergence of gene editing techniques, such as the CRISPR-Cas9 system, has allowed researchers to quickly produce very specific mouse mutants on highly defined genetic backgrounds, which previous to now would have been expensive both financially and in terms of time. There are many approaches that can be used to generate CRISPR-Cas9 edited mouse models including the use of electroporation. This course will teach the use CRISPR-CAS9 and electroporation to generate on-target founder mice for both deletions and point mutations. This technique is relatively simple to learn when compared with the time required to become competent with pronuclear injections.

Delegates will spend the first day in discussion based workshops, learning how to design their own CRISPR-Cas9 experiments and interpret the results.  The following day is dedicated to training in embryo harvesting, sorting and electroporation to deliver CRISPR-Cas9 reagents to the cytoplasm.   In addition there will be a demonstration of surgical embryo transfer using a surgical assistant to help maintain sterile conditions.

The course will be running again from the 11th to the 12th November 2019, for more details or to register your interest email:
